The body is sitting in the middle of the chassis but its clearly not symmetrical !!!
It's not been a good weekend on the Cobra front. Trying to get the inner front wings to line up with the chassis before bolting them down has required a lot of pulling and pushing with straps, blocks of wood etc . In the end I managed to get them to sit parallel with the chassis but the offset was different side to side. The body is sitting in the middle of the chassis but its clearly not symmetrical !!! I now have the problem of trying to fit the front of the inner wings to the chassis. The body now seems too high at the front leaving very little overlap of the body to chassis. I have pulled the body down and clamped the body and chassis together in the vain hope that over the next week or so they change shape .

Above is the morning shift crew , from left to right Al, Shaun, me, Jack, Mick and Sally. We had discussed the plan, had a coffee and thought a team picture at the start might be a good idea as we weren't sure what would happen. 1st job was to get the body on the floor, easy. Next was the trial fit of the body. Front end lowered, then came the comments, Its never going to fit, something's wrong...... I had always wondered why the stainless panel from Dave Brooks didn't match my body, I'd never really given it much thought, just assumed it would be OK. Clearly not. The body went back on the trestles and the task of modifying the stainless panels started .... nightmare, as the pictures below show. 2 hours later and it fitted , what a relief. Body back off, glue applied with a compressed air sealant gun. Fantastic bit of kit. Body back on and then lots of riveting. The finished article. An exhausting and stressful day but very rewarding. Many thanks to the morning team and Simon who turned up just at the right time to help with the final lift. |
