Spent the rest of the day finishing the labelling of the wire harness using the fantastic wiring diagram made by Cliff Graves which is available on his website. There are a couple of wires I couldn't identify but I will bell them out once they are installed. Finally, I inspected a few bits of stainless that have been made for the car. The 2 pieces on the left will support the wheel arches where they fix to the chassis and the bits on the right are brake pipe clamps for inside the engine bay. Many thanks to Pete S and Dave R for their help in their production

Fitting the brake booster should have been oh so easy. There was not enough room between stainless panelling and wheel arch to slip it in, and then when it did go in, because the panelling is not flat against the footwell, it bent it. So out it came several more times until it was ok (good old packing washers) ...except I haven't removed the stainless protective film from behind it so it might be coming out again. This picture was taken at 8.30 in Shoreham-by-Sea near Brighton. Jack and I had left at 5.15 form Derby to get there. Hadn't slept well the night before..... a bit like Christmas eve when you were young. This was what was waiting. Its a Small Block Chevy with an Edelbrock Performer RPM package, stroked, and as many shiny bits fitted as Brian at Roadcraft had. Protected from the rain. A snug fit . Maybe too snug !!!! Arrived back home safely. Now only have to get it out ..... It was at this point we realised there was not enough height above the engine to get he engine hoist in and be able to lift the engine up. With the air filter and mounting stud removed, chain on end of arm shortened, we just manages to get the balance bar in above the engine, and by using ratchet straps just get the engine off the van floor. Safely in the garage. The process between the last picture and this one were too stressful for pictures. This was just getting it out of a van. What will it be like fitting it , with gearbox , to the car. Gearbox was simple in comparison. Managed to spend a few hours this weekend in the garage. Bonded and bolted the drivers side engine bay panelling to the body, fitted the pedals and the clutch master cylinder. Then realised that if I fitted the brake booster it would be difficult to fit the side vent mounting studs so I fitted those and called it a day. |
