Welcome to my Dax Cobra build website
Why am I building a Dax
This is a picture of the engine bay of my 1966 Sunbeam Alpine. I bought it when I was 18 after working in Baghdad for 6 weeks (much to my parents disgust)
I drove to and from school and then University until it failed it's MOT in 1988 due to some rust in the chassis.
As I was on my industrial placement at the time I decided that I would strip the whole car down, get it sand blasted and get the body fully restored ......... I planned to have it finished in 6 months, it took me 22 years.
It was finally back on the road in 2010. I had rebuilt or replaced everything on the car, and to be honest was sorry to see her finished. Bored with nothing to do I started taking already perfect bits of her and getting them chrome plated.
Early last year, having just received and fitted my latest batch of chromed parts , I asked my wife as she dropped off a coffee in the garage what she thought of my new chrome plated oil filler cap.
Her response went something along the lines of ......... this is a bit sad, I think it's time to get that kitcar you've been on about.
Who was I to refuse an offer like that, I had been going to kit car shows for years and always talked of building one, and here was my wife telling me to do just that.
Why a Dax? We disagreed on the car I was to build, I had always assumed I would build a budget 7 type kit, she wanted a Sebring. In the end I gave her a kitcar magazine and she choose a cobra. My dream come true.
